Core competencies are part of every class at Byrne Creek and vary in how they are developed. For instance, communication in math class may look rather different from communication in dance class. Teachers at Byrne Creek are working to help students recognize when they are using and building their core competencies, and identify strengths and areas in need of further growth. All grade 8 and 9 students are required to complete a yearly self-reflection that self-assesses the development of their core competencies.
All grade 8 and 9 students will have a 1:1 conversation with a teacher where they will share evidence of their growth. Each grade 8 and 9 student will be scheduled for an appointment on Monday, June 24th with one specific teacher. This is an adjustment to our posted calendar – please mark your calendars that Grade 8 and 9 students are expected to attend school for a portion of this day. Each 1:1 conversation is anticipated to last approximately 20 minutes. If this poses a significant conflict for your family, please notify the office and we will do our best to schedule an earlier appointment.
